Too Faced Born This Way Foundation Swatches On Dark Skin

Here are swatches of the shades I have. Maple and Chestnut are really similar but Maple leans more neutral to cool while Chestnut leans more warm/golden. These used to be the three darkest shades but a few darker shades were launched on the 15th of June, 2017.

Too Faced Born This Way Foundation Review

The Born This Way Foundation leaves a gorgeous skin-like finish, while giving medium to full coverage. It didn’t settle into my smile lines or emphasize my pores. It feels weightless on the skin. It is very transfer resistant. I didn’t experience any issues with transfer.

I was worried about the coconut extracts in it, but it didn’t break me out.

I have oily skin so I usually prefer mattifying foundations. The Toofaced Born This Way foundation is actually pretty good for my oily skin. Granted, it is no Estee Lauder Double Wear, but it holds its own. I only have to blot once a day when I wear this. In this humid Nigerian weather, that’s good enough for me. I think it has that perfect formula that all skin types from dry to oily can wear, with the right skin prep steps. It is not too mattifying but it is not too hydrating. With my mattifying primers and powders, I don’t find it too oily for my skin.

It ticks all the boxes I want in a foundation, and it lives up to it’s claims. I am actuallu very impressed by this foundation and I am surprised it is not more popular.

    1. Yeah, it’s not readily available here either. I had to get a friend to send me a few samples of some shades I thought would work for me.

  1. I think the foundation isn’t that popular because when it first debuted, the shade range stopped at Caramel, so a lot of darker-skinned women lost interest at that point. I’ve heard a lot of people express dissatisfaction with being made to wait for their shades to be made available until product lines are expanded and so will just cancel a line at that point.

  2. You’re probably right. Mahogany used to be the darkest shade. It wasn’t very dark-skin friendly. I’m happy they’ve expanded the shade range now.
