The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% Review

The ordinary advanced retinoid 2% Review

Today I’m reviewing the Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2%. This is supposed to be a “stable emulsion of next-generation forms of retinoid”.

Retinoids are supposed to boost collagen production, make the skin look smoother and firmer.

They are supposed to clear dead skin cells, oils and debris from pores.

They’re also supposed decrease oil production leading to less breakouts.

You can read all the scientific stuff about this product on the brand website.

The Ordinary Advanced Retinoid 2% Review

This serun broke me out in tiny little pimples all over my face for the first few days of use.

I discontinued using it for a while and used Alpha H Liquid Gold to clear up most of the pimples.

I’ve gone back to using it only twice a week. I always tone with the Liquid Gold now before I apply it, and I apply my Vichy Aqualia serum after I apply it. The Vichy serum contains hyaluronic acid which is good for hydration. I feel this is important because retinoids can be drying.  When used this way, I haven’t experienced any further irritation from this product.

The website recommends applying an oil when you use this, so I might pick up the rose hip seed oil with my next order.
I noticed my skin peeling within days of first use. So, I suppose that means it is renewing the skin. I also felt like it was clearing out my pores.

I think this is an okay product, but people with sensitive skin should use this cautiously.

  1. I love retinoids! Before expanding my regimen, Retin A was bae! I tried 3 times before I finally got it right so it’s pretty tricky to work with. But it gets better…
This is on my list of products to order 😁

  2. Great post. My skin didn’t peel at all when I started using this but I do only use it every other night and I use a heavy night cream on the top. I’m thinking of trying the rosehip oil on my next order though 😋

    1. I used it everyday for about 5 days and I noticed some peeling within those 5 days. But it also broke me out so I only use it 2-3 times a week now.

      1. Yeah.. Retinoids are great for skin, to treat a blemishes, fine lines and anti-wrinkle treatment. But can be very overwhelming and irritate the skin if not used cautiously and correctly. Yeah everyday use for the 1st time will most likely break you out and cause peeling. I got the peeling experience with an over the counter one before – retin-a, I did not use it correctly, but I got the hang of it… and used it every other night and exfoliated at least twice a week and sunscreen in the am is a must… it freaking makes the skin hyper-sensitive.. with continuous use skin becomes clearer and smoother… Again I love your blog…

        1. I have used a retinol from another brand in the past and I didn’t experience any major issues with it. I guess I didnt account for the strength of this particular formulation.
