Tarte Cosmetics launched what is possibly the most controversial makeup product ever, the Tarte Shape Tape foundation. Tarte came under fire for the non-inclusive shade range of this foundation, and for the nonchalant way they handled the situation.
I made a whole video about it. I wanted to focus on the actual review of the product in this post. I got the matte Shape Tape foundation in the shade Rich Sand.

Tarte Shape Tape Matte Foundation Review
A vegan & oil-free full coverage foundation with a creamy texture & modern matte finish to complement our cult-favorite concealer.
WHAT IT DOES
Provides the same full coverage as its concealing predecessor – it smooths over pores & imperfections with rich, airbrushed full coverage that dries to a flawless matte finish using a unique, concealer-inspired wand. The formula absorbs oil & shine while leaving skin creaseless, hydrated, free of flakiness or cakiness & helping to improve skin health with every application.
I agree with most of the claims, but I wouldn’t classify this as full coverage. I found it hard to build it up, because even at two layers, my acne scars were still showing through. I don’t mind though. I like having my skin show through foundations as it looks more natural, but I wouldn’t say this is full coverage.
It lasted beautifully all day, it stayed matte, it didn’t settle into my smile lines, and it just looked really good. It is a shame that the shade I got made me look like an oompa loopma! They could’ve had such a success on their hands but the shade range was frankly rude.
TARTE MATTE SHAPE TAPE FOUNDATION DUPES
UPDATE: THEY EXPANDED THE SHADE RANGE AND I TRIED ONE OF THE NEW SHADES BELOW:
Luckily, medium coverage foundations are not hard to come across.
You can get the same look with Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filter Foundation, The Huda Beauty Faux Filter Foundation, The Lancome Teint Idole foundation, and so much more. Truthfully, if you already have a good medium to full coverage foundation that works for you, you don’t need this.
