NYX Total Control Drop Foundation Review : Best Drugstore Foundation For Oily Skin?

This foundation goes on completely weightless. It literally feels like nothing on the skin. It offers buildable coverage from light to pretty much full, the more drops you add, the better the coverage. It never looks cakey. It doesn’t sink into my smile lines or pores. It doesn’t seperate when the weather gets hot . It lasted all day, and stayed matte all day too (I paired it with my The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer and Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder). The undertones are spot on. NYX did a fabulous job with this.

As far as the application goes, I thought having a dropper would be annoying, but I actually love it. This way I can apply the foundation drops straight to my face and then blend it out with a brush. NYX made a foundation brush specifically to be used with this brush, but my Elf Airbrush Blender works just fine.
It has quickly become one of my favourite foundations.

For a drugstore foundation, this is on the more expensive side. You get only 13ml instead of the regular 30ml most foundations come with.  Then on top of that it costs $14 where most other drugstore foundations cost less.

But honestly? It is completely worth it. I really appreciate the wide shade range that caters to a variety of skintones, and they even went a step further and did such a fantastic job with the undertones of these foundations.  I’m completely impressed, and I would totally repurchase this, and I much prefer it to the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation.

I also really like how easy it was to pick my correct shade online. Using the foundation finder on the website, I chose my skin tone and undertones and I was matched to Cappucino, and it turned out to be a great match.

  1. I wear all the same foundation shades you have listed. I am wanting to try the Black Up but shade seems a bit too light in this compared to others. Do you think you could wear a deeper shade in Black Up? I was thinking #9 as I am told #8 is very red.

    1. I think you could wear a darker shade in Black Up as #7 is lighter than these other foundations. Unfortunately I don’t have swatches of other BlackUp foundation shades.
