So NYX recently launched 6 new palettes as part of their In Your Element collection. I was immediately drawn to the Fire Palette because I never met a warm neutral palette I could resist.
NYX Fire Palette Review
Playing with fire has never looked this good. Our striking In Your Element Shadow Palette Fire collection is packed with 12 blendable hues of rich, blendable eyeshadow and pigment ranging from shockingly bright to warm transition shades. Each one of our six striking (and ultra-collectable) color combinations is inspired by the earth’s elements.
This palette contains 12 shades which are a mixture of mattes, shimmers and one duochrome shade.
The matte shades are pretty fantastic. They are very pigmented, smooth and blendable. There are 8 matte shades. Some have shimmer in the pan but blend out matte. The only problematic matte was the yellow shade. It was great as a transition shade but I couldn’t get it to look pigmented as a lid shade for love or money! I can make it work with a base as a cut crease, but casual makeup wearers might find this shade frustrating when they try to build up the colour.
My favourite thing about this palette is the presence of a true matte red shade. This is a shade I’ve beem searching far and wide for, and something that is not easily dupe-able.
The shimmers are alright. I’ve gotten so used to intense metallic dense foiled shadows like the ones from Makeup Geek and Coloured Raine so to be honest the shimmers here fell a little flat for me. Then again, maybe they’re just satin shades and I’m expecting too much from them. Yes, I definitely would classify them as satin shades. Halfway between being matte and being shimmery. There are 4 satin/metallic shades.
There is one duochrome shade. It is a teal with a brown base and I am in love! This is by no means a new shade on the market. Think Mac’s Blue Brown or Makeup Geek Insomnia.
Overall, this is a pretty good palette, and the packaging is really amazing. Very nicely done and it comes with a mirror. I like that the shades are numbered, so if you’re watching a YouTube tutorial, you can easily follow along. I like that it has a shelf life of 2 years, so you can get a lot of use out of it before it is time to throw it out. I like that it has a red shade and a blue brown shade which makes it different from all the other warm neutral palettes we’ve been seeing recently. It manages to be both fun, vivid and still very much wearable, and the shades are cohesive so they once you look at it, you know which shades you can pair together. I will explain more in my video.
The only true downside to this is the price. I have to admit I was a little shocked by the $30 price tag. Luckily, you can grab it at Ulta for $21 for a limited time.
