Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation Review + Swatches

Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation Review

Since it seems to be the era of stick foundations, I wanted to try one from the drugstore. The only one that seemed like it would work for my oily-combination skin was the Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free Stick Foundation.

Product claims:

Shine-Free + Balance® Stick Foundation face makeup. Oil-absorbing powder foundation stick delivers a natural matte finish for smooth and even-looking skin. This lightweight gel foundation has an exclusive anti-shine powder core that instantly dissolves excess oil. Pores look minimized and skin stays shine-free for ten hours. This oil-absorbing foundation stick goes on creamy and blends into a natural matte finish.

This foundation has a beige coloured core that supposedly helps with oil control. It’s not obvious in the photo because I’ve been using it and the foundation part has covered the core, but yeah.

Lol first of all, I find the claims of oil dissolution a little funny. Like what does that even mean?

This gave me a nice natural matte finish on application. It lasted for around 4 hours or so before I got oily. My pores didn’t necessarily look minimized but they weren’t emphasized either. The beige coloured inner core didn’t leave a cast on my skintone. The foundation went on really creamy and blended easily.

Maybelline Fit Me Shine Free Stick Foundation in Coconut vs Estee Lauder Double Wear Sandalwood
Here’s how the Maybelline Fit Me Shine-Free Stick Foundation in Coconut compares to some of my other foundations

There’s one major thing I don’t like about this foundation, and that is the limited shade range. There are only 8 shades, and this shade I’m reviewing (Coconut) is the darkest. It’s too dark for me, the next shade up is too light, and anyone considerably darker than I am will not find a match in this range. Another complaint -but a minor one- is that the packaging of this is flimsy. If you put it in your bag, chances are that the cap will come off and ruin everything in your bag, so this is not very travel friendly. For day to day wear, it doesnt bother me because I don’t touch up with foundation during the day. I used powders for that. But for out-of-town trips this wouldn’t be the first foundation I’d reach for.

I’m wearing the shade Coconut above, and my lipstick is Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stain in Flamenco.

Okay, so to recap, this is a nice creamy stick foundation. It leaves a matte finish and stays that way for a few good hours, but it’s not as oil-controlling as my favourite foundation. It’s a basic everyday foundation, especially if you’re not going to be out long.  For the price, I think its a perfectly alright foundation.

This is available at Ulta  for $8.99

  1. I’m probably the only one who still hasn’t tried a stick foundation ;’) this looks interesting though. I’m not a fan of the original Fit Me mostly because I don’t find that it keeps me matte and the shade range is just crappy. Maybe I might pick this up to give it a shot. Looks really nice on you!
