Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stain Review + Swatches on Dark Skin.

Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stain Review

Makeup Geek has quite a few different lip products, and I will be reviewing them all soon, but the Showstoppper Creme Stains are the ones I was most excited to try out because they’re supposed to dry matte and be transfer-proof.

First of all, can we discuss the cute packaging! 😍😍😍

Okay let’s get into the actual review.
Product description:

Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stains will ensure you’re the center of attention! 18 long lasting shades with a precision applicator will feel light on the lips throughout the day! Each limited edition shade is highly pigmented and offers effortless, buildable coverage.

The formula of this liquid lipstick is very comfortable and lightweight.  It stays comfortable all day and doesn’t get drying as the day goes on. I love the formula, definitely one of the best I’ve tried.

It actually reminds me a lot of the Huda Beauty liquid lipstick formula, except that I find the Makeup Geek lipsticks last a lot longer, and don’t tend to wear off as fast.

There is some inconsistency between the shades. I like most of the shades I tried, but the shade Electric Slide specifically was pretty much impossible to get even coverage out of. If you want to try that shade I would recommend lining your lips completely with a matching lipliner before applying this. I will be picking up a matching ColourPop pencil for this because the shade is gorgeous and so dramatic.

The rest were buildable and it was easy to achieve full opacity with them.

My only issue with this lipstick is the applicator. As cute as the packaging is- and it is gorgeous, I feel like it stops this lipstick from attaining perfection.

When you go to pull out the applicator, I feel like the opening is so narrow it scrapes off all the product from the sides of the wand, so you only have product on the tip. This means you have to re-dip multiple times to cover your lips. It’s not a deal breaker for me personally, it just takes a couple seconds longer than I’d usually spend on applying lipstick,  but I can see how this could make people impatient.

To apply this, I work in sections. I don’t try to cover my entire lips with one dip of the wand because that’s just not going to work with the whole applicator situation of this lipstick.

Another thing is that I would have really liked to see deeper nudes for darker skintones in this collection. I love Waltz on myself but it definitely needs a liner. I hope that in the future, when more shades are added to this collection, it will include some black-girl friendly nudes and neutrals.

Overall, I love the Showstopper Creme Stains. It lives up to its claims of being light and comfortable on the lips and the good shades offer buildable coverage and good pigmentation. It dries down to matte transfer-proof finish. It doesn’t feel tacky or sticky when I rub my lips together. It doesn’t flake during the course of the day.

There’s room for improvement in the areas mentioned above, but overall, I think it’s a really good product.

With a little bit of time and patience I have been able to apply my favourite shades and get the opacity I like. And I really do love the formula.

My favourite shades are: Waltz, Flamenco, Mambo, and Twerk.

Waltz is a nude shade on my skintone, but it needs a liner.

In the photo below I’m wearing it with ColourPop’s Pitch liner. Any dark brown liner paired with Waltz should give you this same shade.

Flamenco is the perfect red. Not too bright, not too dark. I actually really love this shade because I don’t have a lot of reds I like on myself, but this is an instant favourite.

Mambo is a beautiful berry pink. It’s that shade I like to think of as “grown-up pink”.

Twerk is a deep green. It’s perfect for people who love fun colours. I know it’s impractical for everyday wear but I really like this shade.

I will be posting full face photos of me wearing these on my Instagram soon, so follow me there.

The Makeup Geek Showstopper Creme Stains retail for $12 which puts them right halfway between drugstore prices and high-end prices.

This means you’re getting amazing high-end quality for a fraction of what high-end brands charge, because this formula is right up there with Kat von D, Huda, LimeCrime and Too Faced in my opinion, which are some of my favourite brands of liquid lipstick when it comes to quality and comfort.

You can buy these from the Makeup Geek website.

Have you tried these? What do you think?
I purchased some of these, and some were sent to me for review consideration, but all opinions are my own.
