Kat von D Lock It Concealer Creme Review + Comparison to Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer.

Kat von D Lock It Concealer Creme review and swatches

I’m  a huge fan of Kat von D’s makeup products. Her liquid  lipsticks  are my favourite formula, so when she recently launched some  new products in her Lock It range, I was beyond excited! The Concealer Creme was the item I wanted to try the most, so this post going to be a Kat von D Lock It concealer creme review!

According to Kat von D’s website, this is a “super-creamy, blendable full coverage and true 24-hour wear concealer.  With a few smooth strokes, you can brighten under-eyes, cover blemishes, correct discoloration, neutralize redness, contour and highlight…”

Kat von D Concealer Creme Review

This is a thick, creamy, full coverage concealer that brightens the under eyes, highlights, corrects discoloration, and covers blemishes.

I got the shade D31

How to apply Kat von D Lock It Concealer Creme :

For me, this concealer is best applied over properly moisturized skin, allowed to sit for a few seconds so that  body heat warms it up, then blended out with a damp beauty sponge, set with a damp beauty sponge using translucent powder, and allowed to lightly “bake”. This is how I’ve  gotten the best results with it. I find that if I don’t moisturize, it doesn’t glide over the skin easily, and if I don’t bake, it settles into my fine lines.

I picked up the  shade D31 (Deep 31 Warm) which I believe is the lightest shade in the deep range. I think there are 4 or 5 shades darker than this, and there is a mix of warm and neutral shades. I chose a warm shade because I have warm, golden undertones.

This is full coverage, but it blends out so well. It dries to a natural matte finish. It does not feel heavy on the skin. It doesn’t overly settle into or emphasize fine lines when set correctly. It lasts well without any visible  signs of fading for the 8 or so hours I usually wear makeup.

The pointy end of the applicator is convenient for getting into the corners of the eyes and nose.

It provides very full coverage: It has the best coverage of all the concealers I own, without looking mask-like or feeling heavy.

It is long-wearing. On me, it doesn’t fade, wear off, breakdown or change colour through out the day, despite the fact that I live in West Africa where the climate is quite hot.

There is a wide range of shades: There’s  something for every skintone and every undertone.

It blends really well and melts into the skin. It gives a natural looking semi-matte finish. It doesn’t look or feel drying even though  it’s  semi-matte. But then again I have oily-combination skin so results may vary for other skin types.

It tugs when applied to bare skin. It’s best applied to moisturised skin.

It creases unless I “bake”

I really like this concealer. Yes, it has a few flaws but they are based on application technique and can easily be fixed.  Once it’s properly applied and set, it’s not going anywhere. The coverage  is unparalled, and the shade I have is a perfect match for me.

It’s my second favourite concealer of all time  at the moment, and I would  repurchase.

Above are swatches  of how it compares to Nars Radiant Creamy concealer in Amande.

They are both in the same size range and price range. I like the Nars one a little better than the Kat von D one because the Nars Radiant Creamy concealer is a little creamier than the Kat von D Lock It concealer creme.

I find that the Nars Radiant Creamy concealer leaves a more natural finish to the skin.

The Kat von D Lock It Concealer Creme offers fuller coverage than the Nars Radiant Creamy concealer.

Both concealers have a wide range of shades so there’s something for everyone.
