ColourPop Ultra Blotted Lips Review + Swatches on Dark Skin

Colourpop ultra blotted lips review

Colourpop recently launched yet another liquid lipstick formula. This time it’s a formula called the Ultra Blotted Lip. I was intrigued so I picked up a couple of shades to try for myself.

Product Claims

Ultra Blotted Lip: A medium coverage matte lipstick that creates a soft, diffused look. It is completely transfer-proof and long-wearing but also lightweight and comfortable. No cracking or flaking! Leaves lips smooth and fresh.

The Ultra Blotted lip is a sheer liquid lipstick with a matte transfer-proof finish.

I have a natural ombre lip thing going on. My top lip is darker than my lower lip , and my lower lip is lightest in the middle. Because it is not completely opaque, the Ultra Blotted Lip mimicked the natural look of my lips and gave me a really pretty effortless ombre look.
I got the shades Split and Cherry on Top.

Split is a beautiful berry shade which applied with no problems.
Cherry on top is a blackened red which applied sort of weird and streaky. I don’t know if its the formula or if its just that vampy shades don’t really work for a formula like this. I mean who really wants a sheer vampy shade? I feel like vampy colours are best when they’re really pigmented. In any case, this shade just wasn’t working for me.

The formula overall reminds me of the Ultra mattes. It has that same  powdery finish to it, which I really dislike. The Ultra Blotted Lip is much more comfortable, less drying and less opaque. It is also completely transfer proof. But all in all,  it feels a little like a watered down Ultra Matte.
I do think it’s a fun formula, and I will probably wear the shades I own for a little while, but I will not be purchasing any more shades in this formula.

Meanwhile I wish ColourPop would come out with more interesting stuff. A few examples;

Single versions of their new powder highlighters.

Vibrant blushes that work on deep skin. A face duo where someone with deep skin can *actually* use both products.

Liquid glitters like the Stila Glitter n Glow Shadows. Like if they made their Shameless Super Shock shadow into a liquid glittery eyeshadow that would be so freaking amazing!

Their best selling Super Shock shadows in pressed powder form.

Concealers + Loose Setting Powders.

Bright liquid liners.

There’s so much more I’m expecting from them. This particular launch just feels a bit meh.
Anyway, Ultra Blotted Lips are available from the  Colourpop website.

  1. I don’t understand the concept of ‘blotted lips’ or ‘lip stain’ so it’s a no from me. I go big or go home; bold lipstick or nothing for me. Besides, I’m beginning to get sick of ColourPop. How are you? I hope all is well. Xoxo.

    1. Girl! I don’t get it either. This was a miss for me. I feel like ColourPop is more interested in launching new products for the sake of it than actually putting out good products that will stand the test of time. I’m gradually losing interest in the brand. I’m doing really well. How are you?

  2. the shade Split looks like a beautiful mauve. I’m having trouble looking for a mauve that actually looks mauve on me :/

do these get drying as the day goes on?
