Hey guys, today I have something a little different. Today’s post is a guest post written by Idowu Akinrelere, who is the co-founder of Original Cosmetics, Nigeria. I’m sure you already know by the title, what this post is about, so here is Idowu’s post:
Getting your makeup to last all day in this Nigerian weather with all the humidity, sweating, oiliness, and creasing is possible if you know a trick or two use the right products.
We all know how much effort it takes to apply a face full of makeup, and there’s nothing more annoying than seeing the remnants of your hard work slide down your face by the end of the day.
This article is about simple makeup routines and affordable products that would enable your makeup last all day long without smearing or creasing.
1. Always Use An Eyeshadow Primer.
Eyeshadow primers makes your eyeshadow last longer and prevents creasing. Also, it makes colors seem more vibrant and less translucent.
The best eyeshadow primers out there turns every shadow regardless of formula into longwear.
- If you don’t use a lot of eye makeup, an eye primer may not be necessary. However, it can really help if your eye makeup tends to smudge and end up below your eyes.
- Eye primer can also help your eyeliner stay in place.
2. Use Long Lasting Matte Lipsticks And Lip Stains
When it comes to a statement-making pout, matte lipstick is the way to go. Celebrity makeup artists understand the necessity of long-lasting lip color. One thing we all don’t like about lip color is having to touch it up and not always knowing if your lipstick is half-faded when having a discussion. (Because nothing is more embarrassing than accidental ombré lips.)
A few long-lasting lip colors include: Milani Amore Matte Lip Creme, Jordana Cosmetics Sweet Cream Liquid Lip Color Matte, Milani Color Statement Moisture Matte Lipsticks, LA Girl Matte Finish Flat Pigment Gloss, BH Cosmetics Color Lock Long Lasting Matte Lipstick and Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick.
Milani Amore Matte Lip Creme is one of most-favored and sought after by liquid lipsticks connoisseurs. The reason is pretty simple: it’s affordable and it has good quality, even exceeding the quality of high-end products from infamous brands and it really lasts up to 16hrs – irrespective of whether you are talking, eating, kissing, or hugging.
3. Prime Your Face With A Good Face Primer
If you haven’t been using face primers, then you’re really missing out. Face Primers are life-savers for getting your foundation to stay-put in extreme weather.
Whether you wear a full face of makeup everyday or you prefer to keep it light, makeup primer is a godsend when trying to combat shine or create a smooth base for foundation.
Yet, many people often skip this step because they believe they don’t really need it, are unsure of how to use it or don’t think it’s worth the investment. However, using face primer underneath your foundation will make everything last longer.
Face primers are to be applied as a base before you apply your makeup. You do not need a lot of it – all you need is a small pea size. Using your finger tip, you are to apply it and massage it unto your face just like you would apply a moisturiser unto your face.
4. Stick To Mattifying Long lasting Foundations
All foundations are not created equal. By default some are made to long lasting and are not.
It is always advisable to go for a foundation that is mattifying, water resistant and offers full coverage.
A very good foundation that is perfect for the Nigeria weather is the Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer, Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation or the BH Cosmetics Studio Pro HD Foundation. Irrespective of the foundation you go with, be sure to use your appropriate shade. The Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation + Concealer does not feel heavy. It is light and long lasting. You can apply extra layers to conceal areas that you have acne scars or pigmentation. We always recommend that you use a brush to apply your makeup. When you use a brush and you actually find that it blends a lot easier.
5. Always Use Setting Sprays
Setting sprays are like hair sprays for your face, these facial mists will prevent your makeup from budging for hours. Setting sprays help keep your makeup from sliding down your face and reduce any oily buildup. They achieve this by mattifying your look. They basically convert your regular makeup into matte.
The best setting spray out there that is easily available in the Nigerian market is the Milani Make It Last Setting Spray and the Milani Make It Dewy 3-in-1 Setting Spray.
These spray will keep your makeup in place for hours (seriously, even through heat, workouts and a night out.) . Even if you sweat, hug or rub, your makeup will stay in place. Other good ones are the Ben Nye Final Seal Matte Makeup Sealer, Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray, NYX Makeup Setting Spray – Matte Finish and e.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set.
Setting sprays are to be applied at the very end of your make routine. To apply, always shake the containers and spray a little mist unto your face at the very end of your makeup routine.
6. Use Setting Powders to Control Shine
If you have oily skin, translucent setting powders would be a lifesaver for you.
Setting powders are the powders that go directly on top of your foundation. These are either tinted or translucent, and are designed to set and mattify makeup. They can be tinted or transluscent. However, it is best to go for the translucent or transparent varieties as these would not change the color or look for your makeup as they are universal. A good example is the Milani Prep Set Go Transparent Powder and Milani Prep + Set + Glow Illuminating Transparent Powder.
I always recommend keeping a translucent setting powder in your makeup bag, so you can touch up whenever you need to.
Dab your face anytime of the day with it when you feel that your face is starting to look shiny. It will absorb the oil, get the shine and help your makeup look flawless.
